At El Regato Ikastetxea, we have launched a new Peer Mediation Programme, aiming to build a school environment rooted in positive relationships, active participation and mutual respect.
The goal is to equip students with the skills they need to manage conflicts in a constructive and peaceful way, while developing key competences such as active listening, emotional expression and collaborative problem-solving.
What is peer mediation?
Peer mediation is a voluntary process in which two individuals in conflict engage in dialogue to reach a peaceful, mutually agreed resolution — with the support of a neutral third person, the mediator.
In our school, students themselves will take on the role of mediators, always supported and coordinated by a trained team of teachers. These students will receive specific training in areas such as:
- Respectful communication and emotional awareness.
- Active listening and empathetic responses.
- Creative problem-solving strategies.
- Active participation in promoting a healthy school environment.
The search for future mediators has already begun
We have already begun interviewing the students pre-selected to take part in this exciting initiative. We are looking for young people who demonstrate empathy, responsibility and a willingness to contribute to the well-being of the school community.

We are confident that this programme will not only help foster a more respectful and inclusive atmosphere in the school but also provide participants with a highly valuable experience for their personal and emotional development.
From the teaching team and school leadership, we would like to congratulate all those involved and thank them for their commitment to this inspiring project.
We will be sharing updates soon and introducing our first team of peer mediators.
