KITCHEN - CANTEEN
All of the food served in the school is prepared in our own facilities. We have a dedicated building used only for our canteens (four) and kitchen, the latter of which is fully equipped, with over 300 m2 spread over four areas: preparation, distribution, storage (cold rooms and storage room) and cleaning.
The facilities were fully renovated in the summer of 2018 and are continuously updated due to the number of meals served (over 300,000 meals during the year). 99% of students use this service and we are the state-subsidised school that offers its users the best value for money in the Basque Country.
Every day, in our kitchen we prepare alternative meals for students with allergies and/or intolerances, as well as having meals that are tailored to the needs of each student. These can be seen in the Partners area of our website, in the Canteen Brochure section.
The meals prepared in the school are based on a healthy diet, following the Basque government’s recommendations, with the menus drawn up by a dietitian. The food is continuously and tightly monitored, through various internal and external audits. And thanks to our joint work with Ausolan, a company from the industry that sources the ingredients, we can ensure:
- The quality of the ingredients to prepare varied, nutritional meals by using products that are mostly local (link a noticia producto local).
- Regular checks on suppliers, food that is prepared, etc..
- Checks on compliance with food and quality laws, in accordance with standard ISO 9001.

Información general al usuario del comedor
En el Colegio El Regato nos preocupamos porque nuestro alumnado reciba una alimentación sana y saludable, y consideramos de vital importancia que la materia prima que utilizamos sea de calidad. Por esta razón nuestros platos diarios (los guisados, las legumbres, los purés de guardería y las dietas especiales) los elaboramos con verduras frescas.
Para ello, contamos con unos proveedores que nos suministran en su gran mayoría materia prima local (alrededor del 80%) y nacional. Además, según la época del año en la que estemos, introducimos productos y verduras frescas provenientes de las huertas de Bizkaia.

Each year, the school holds informative talks for families, guided tours of the kitchen facilities and experimental and educational workshops for primary school students with the support of various organisations such as Ausolan (catering and cleaning services).
Meal times:
The school has 4 canteens with different opening hours:
- Classrooms for 2-year olds: families receive daily information, through a diary, about the eating habits of their children.
- Infant education, 3 to 6 years: families receive a monthly report via Educamos.
- Primary: quarterly information via Educamos on the eating habits of their children.
- 3rd and 4th year of secondary school: there are two daily options for the starter, based on a variety of salads, and a second option on designated days.
- Sixth form: in addition to the second option for mains on designated days, they also have salad bar which they manage by themselves.
