Students from the first year of Bachillerato (Upper Secondary Education) at El Regato School have taken another important step in their education thanks to an Erasmus+ project that enabled them to complete two weeks of work placements in companies across the German region of Schleswig-Holstein.
This experience was the second stage of an exchange programme that began in April, when thirteen German students came to Bizkaia to carry out their own work placements in local companies. This time, it was the turn of eleven students from our school to travel to Germany and experience first-hand the value of working in an international environment.
During their stay, the students completed work placements in companies and organisations located in Sankt Peter-Ording, Lübeck and Mölln. Working in a foreign language, adapting to new professional environments and facing real workplace challenges allowed them to develop valuable skills that will benefit them both personally and professionally.

Each student enjoyed a unique experience based on their interests and the company where they were placed. Iraia Marcelo, for example, worked in a graphic design and advertising agency, where she helped design the full branding for a food truck belonging to an Italian restaurant. Before returning home, she had the opportunity to see her design completed and installed.

Sara López carried out her placement in a gardening company in Kulpin, where she was involved in preparing and caring for seasonal plants and flowers for customers. Other students worked in a wide range of organisations, including a dental clinic, an engineering company, a cinema and a local council, gaining first-hand insight into different professional sectors.
Beyond the workplace, the programme also offered an enriching cultural experience. Together with their German exchange partners, the students visited the city of Hamburg, enjoyed a boat trip along the River Elbe and discovered landmarks such as the famous City Hall (Rathaus). They also explored the historic city of Lübeck and its iconic Holsten Gate.

This Erasmus+ project marks the successful completion of the first academic year since El Regato Ikastetxea obtained its Erasmus Accreditation, a recognition that enables the school to continue participating in European mobility projects over the coming years.
At El Regato School, we believe that learning goes beyond the classroom. It means discovering new cultures, embracing challenges and developing the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. Experiences like this reflect our commitment to providing an education that prepares students for the future while encouraging personal growth, responsibility and an international outlook.
